Italy in Winter

The holiday in Italy tends to be on fun and relaxation rather than sporting, as a result, the enjoyment factor is all the higher. Italy much more laid back than its rivals in France, Switzerland and Austria. It is also cheaper, so Italy is a reasonable choice for anyone with a tight budget. Furthermore, families with young children are welcome even in the TOP hotels and restaurants.

Italy is also full of giant ski areas. The Dolomites are full of beautiful scenery and a variety of terrain. This area is also base on the famous Sella Ronda a circular network of lifts and pistes around the Gruppo del Sella. It is a majestic limestone massif, taking in a host of resorts.

Snow cover over the past 40 years has not always been as good in Italy as anywhere in the Alps. The Sella Ronda resorts and other destinations in the Dolomites don’t always catch the regular winter storms that strike the peaks of the Austrian Tirol, less than 100km away.

Nevertheless, highly-efficient snowmaking means that even when there is almost no natural cover. Italian resorts are able to maintain many miles of piste in perfect condition.

There are two places which are really lovely for skiing are Madonna di Campiglio and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Both in the heart of the Dolomites.
