"A good value hotel. Facilities are all good and the hotel itself is actually good. The close proximity to the station (and particularly the airport link platforms) is a big advantage."
"All was ok. I'll stay there again."
"we had a wonderful time in Rome also due to accomodation in this friendly hotel."
"We were overwhelmed by the hospitality we received while at this hotel. We arrived late and asked for a dining recommendation. After we left, the manager called the restaurant and let them know we were on our way. They gave us a discount! The next morning we took an all day tour of Rome and then caught the evening train to Milan. The hotel stored our luggage for us! When we returned that evening to gather our luggage, we asked if we could pay to use a shower. They graciously allowed us to use one of the rooms for free. This made our night stay on the train more tolerable. The service we received at this hotel was one of the highlights of our trip."

All rooms have en-suite bathroom with shower, air conditioning, television, safe, hairdryer, radio, direct dial telephone, minibar, kettle.
Overall opinion. This is a summary of guests' reviews:
"The Hotel Paba in Rome and its owner Alberta "made" our trip to Rome. The hotel is in a wonderful location (easy walking distance to the Forum and the Colosseum). Although right on Via Cavour it was quiet and well-kept. Alberta made us feel right at home from our breakfast (brought to us in our room when we were ready for it) to travel advice to Rome information phone calls to always welcoming us with a friendly smile as we would return to our "home-away-from-home". Alberta speaks wonderful English and, thus, helped make our stay more comfortable. Her hotel, though just a few rooms and only 2 stars, is spacious and modern. The 2 stars evidentally come from the size of her hotel rather than any amenities. She had everything we needed and more, such as remote control computerized heat/air! Having traveled to Rome for many years, I must say that I have never seen such a great combination of location and comfort and affordability, as usually only 1 or 2 of those may be found in one hotel. I heartily recommend Alberta and her Hotel Paba on Via Cavour." Another guest's review: "Rooms overlooking Via Cavour can be noisy. Insist on a room away from the street. Our room was the nicest of our 3-week trip, and it was quiet. The location is ideal."
"Fabulous! Very central location close to the Colosseum with extremely helpful and friendly English-fluent staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Breakfast was served in our room. Accomodations were more on the 3-star side, very clean and comfortable with all the comforts of home. Has an elevator. Would highly recommend to family and friends. Will definitely stay here again."
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Paba and would return any time."
"This hotel was perfect for our vacation. The location is unbeatable! 2 blocks from the Forum and the Colisseum. Alberta was a wonderful host and very helpful. Our room was immaculate. Though smallish, it was perfect for our needs. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, and plan to stay here on our next visit to Rome."
"We stayed at Paba for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel offers great value for money and if you take the location (100 metres from the forum) into account it is just excellent. Even better was the extremely helpful owner who did not just offered a very warm welcome but also proved invaluable when it came to recommendations for restaurants. Our room was to the back and perfectly quiet. We would very much recommend Paba and hope to stay there again."
"Good quality rooms, on second floor, our 2nd visit to this hotel."

A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"After arriving late at night, we were shocked to find our room was actually a suite, complete with a small balcony that overlooks the Vatican. The mirrors on every square inch of surface took a little getting used to, but our stay was wonderful. Breakfast was delicious, and the view from the rooftop dining room was breathtaking. Finally, the hotel was kind enough to allow us to leave our luggage with them until our train left late in the evening. We'll be back."
"The location is good to go to the main spots on foot. The restaurant for breakfast is nice viewing of Vatican. Fortunately we could enjoy light up the view of Vatican from our room. It made ourselves relax and happy even though the tooooo hot daytime tiredness. Thanks a lot for making our trip happy."
"Golden House B&B is a subsidiary of the Atlante Star Hotel where you get to have your breakfast buffet on their top floor overlooking St Peter's."
"We were given the only room (facing front) with a double balcony. My wife and I spent every evening on that balcony facing the beautiful view of the Vatican dome. The house keeping and dining room staff were excellent. The front desk: even better!! Our stay was fantastic and we look forward to our next visit to both Rome AND the hotel. Two thumbs up!!!"
"The Golden House is an excellent place to stay. It's in an old building. The room was relatively big and very nice, very plush with antique furniture and beautiful bedspread and curtains. The bathroom is big and nice as well. It has much more of an apartment feeling, not like a bed and breakfast. The breakfast at the hotel (included) was amazing. It's in a formal dining room with an incredible view of the city and the breakfast buffet was the best we had the whole trip. HUGE. It is located just a few moments walk from St. Peters. We would definitely stay there again.

Orlanda Hotel in Rome
Assorted guests' reviews:
"This was a really great place to stay. The location is great because it is two blocks from Termini. The facility was nice and clean. There was a lot of street noise, but when you shut you window you can hardly tell. Awesome for budget travel."
"Hotel Orlanda was our first place to stay after flying for 20 hours from Canada. We were quite impressed that the pictures of the hotel on the web site accurately displayed the front desk and rooms. After a long flight, it was also great to have very friendly front desk staff who helped us check into our room. We really appreciated the detailed information given to us about the subway and bus system as well as locations of major historic sites in Rome. The staff at Hotel Orlanda certainly made our first couple of days in Italy memorable and gave our vacation a great start! We also had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Locanda dei Guelfi in Florence. We really appreciated the personalized email confirmation of our reservation. Based on our great experiences, we have been recommending
Venere.com
to friends who are planning vacations to Europe."
"The room was clean and spacious but only had a sink and mirror. We shared two communal restrooms with the other rooms on that floor. There was no parking provided by the hotel but they did set us up with a garage that was close by. The rates for the garage were better than anywhere else we found during our trip. The staff was friendly and the desk clerk suggested a nice little trattoria around the corner."
"A budget hotel in the heart of Rome. Lots of traffic noise and some dubious late night business taking place on the streets outside! A great short stay option if you are on a budget."
"The room is nice and clean. I was satisfied with the room and the service of it."
"This hotel was one of several hotels located in a building with one, slow elevator. There, apparently, were several family-owned apartments over several floors which had been converted into small hotels. We liked the updated, modern and pleasant decor of our room very much. We found it to be spacious and quite comfortable. Our room was at the cross-section of two busy streets near the train station, however, so we heard the traffic noise below in the early morning. Otherwise, we thought the room was pleasant and good value for the price."
"An ideal location for exploring the central attractions of Rome. It is also ideally placed to transfer to airports. The hotel is very clean, with friendly staff."

Contilia Hotel in Rome
Assorted guests' reviews:
"The hotel Contilia and the staff are wonderful and really made a good holiday into a WONDERFUL holiday. The area is quite cosmapolitan, more young and trendy and lively with lots of locals rather than in the middle of the tourist areas.... but within easy reach to Everything, this hotel would cost an absolute fortune if in a more Affluent area, the area seemed very friendly and SAFE, even late at night..... with plenty of shops, places to eat ( I had the best Pizza ever just a couple of doors away) and a Laundrette and supermarket and banks all just a few steps away......... so I would highly recommend it, to ANY visitors to rome."
"The hotel was reasonable for the price. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were cleaned every day, with fresh towels provided."
"It is lovely hotel, with wonderful staff and hotel. Made our last night in Rome wonderful."
"Thank you! Our stay in Roma was very pleasant. Hotel Contilia was very convenient for us -- near both the trainstation and subway. We also appreciated the 5% discount for paying with cash."
"Single room, small but nicely furnished. Bathroom very clean but tiny! toilet almost inaccessible against wall. Otherwise a good review. Close to station & metro a plus."
"I am happy to have now a good reference for my next trip to Rome. It is a shame not to have such a hotel in other cities too. Only one thing to say. It is a good reference."
"It was a nice hotel situated pretty good. We are very satisfied with our stay in Rome and at Hotel Contilia. I will recommend this hotel to my friends."
"The location of the hotel is excellent for sightseeing as you are located beside Termini where you can get both metro lines and all local buses. The rooms are cleaned every day and the area has a good choice of places to eat at reasonable prices. And if you are looking for somewhere to stay at a reasonable price which won't blow your budget so you can spend the rest on food & drink I'd recommend this Hotel."
"Contilia is a very clean hotel with very good and polite staffing. The staff tried to answer all of our questions. Contilia does have a small lift for your luggage which is very helpful. The room was very small with a very firm bed. On the other hand, it looks great and the bathroom is nice with a small shower. The location is 5-8 minutes from Termini and 15-20 minutes from Colosseum and other main attractions. My general review, Contilia is a very nice place with nice people in a decent location. They earn their three stars."
"A pleasant central hotel, convenient to the local transport with easy access to airport and historical points of interest. Breakfast was served in pleasant surroundings and was always fresh."
"The staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful. I would certainly have no hesitation about returning."
"An excellent 'last stay' place in Rome due to its proximity to the train station (2 blocks). Nice people who cared about us and saw to making our stay enjoyable."

THE CATS OF ROME
Cats are part of the history and the landscape of this great city as much as humans.
If you visit Rome's famous sites, you can't help noticing them taking a nap on the base of an ancient Roman column remnant, or walking inside the arches of the Colosseum.
There is a famous cat sanctuary in the middle of ancient Roman ruins, in the historical centre of the city, in Largo di Torre Argentina, nestled in the heart of the Area Sacra archeological ruins, one of the city's oldest temples. Amidst Roman temples dating back to 400 - 300 BC, about 250 cats have found protection from the chaos and traffic of the city.
Around 8,000 people visit the sanctuary each year, including lots of international volunteers. Visitors have worked wonders for the city's abandoned and stray cats through fundraising, adoption and volunteerism.
Besides coordinating daily adoptions, volunteers feed the outdoor cats scattered around the ruins and watch vigilantly for newly abandoned cats, who must be trapped, neutered and vaccinated. Inside the underground shelter, countless cages line the earthen walls and are filled with adoptable cats, all with nametags and files full of medical history. All cats are vaccinated before adoption, and prospective parents must commit to sterilization.
You can visit the sanctuary. It is open every day from noon to 6 p.m. Entrance at Largo di Torre Argentina, corner of Via Florida & Via Arenula .
If you have any questions, email them at: torreargentina@tiscali.it
You can volunteer some of your time. They are always looking for animal lovers to join their international family.
Or you can adopt a cat at a distance, or make a donation. Many cats don't get adopted.
Lack of beauty, old age, being handicapped, ill, too shy or non-trusting of humans are the main reasons why many cats never find a home. You can help by adopting one or two of them at a distance.
