Hotels by Rome's Termini central train station recommended by guests & independent guides

Some sources of reviews are Concierge, Frommer's, Rick Steves, This is Travel, Travelocity, Trip Advisor, Venere.

Hotel Pavia in Rome

Pavia Hotel is thus recommended by Frommer's Rome Guidebook: "In a renovated 100-year-old villa, this hotel is a popular choice on this quiet street near the gardens of the Baths of Diocletian. You take a wisteria-covered passage to reach the recently modernized reception area and tasteful public rooms. All the rooms are comfortable and fairly attractive, and the maids keep everything beautifully maintained, including the medium-size bathrooms with new showers. The quality of the rooms makes this a bargain."
One guest's review: "The hotel staff were all courteous and eager to help us. We felt the accomodations were in line with what was advertized on the hotel's website. We would recomment Hotel Pavia to friends."

Hotel Mozart in Rome

Concierge guide description: "Very central but very quiet. Although Hotel Mozart is close to the very busy Via del Corso and the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, the area is actually rather quiet and is reminiscent of Rome in the early 1900s. The hotel is all you could wish for from a 3 star establishment, with quality worthy of a higher category and friendly, helpful staff. The terrace on the fifth floor allows you to sunbathe and offers a panoramic view of the city. Moderate cost. Features: • restaurant • television • bureau de change • safe deposit • bar • disabled access • air conditioning."

Description from This is Travel guide: "150 yds W of Spanish Steps in cobbled pedestrian side street between Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna. Piazza Venezia 350 yds. Designer shops, bars and restaurants immediate. Bus stop 100 yds; Spagna underground 150 yds. Exterior: Attractive 4-storey render building; built late 18th century. Narrow entrance flanked by potted trees. Interior: Charming brick reception with sand-coloured walls and elegant furnishings. Breakfast room alongside spacious lounge area with wooden floors and comfy sofas. Refurbished 1998. Grounds: Pleasant views from charming tiled roof terrace with metal-framed chairs and tables, street lamps and potted shrubs. Opinion: Small select accommodation in good position for exploring city and sights."

A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"Stayed at the Hotel Mozart. We had a deluxe, fantastic room with a private patio off double doors. Very large room with a comfortable king-sized bed. Hotel was very nice, with a small, friendly staff. Breakfast included was also very nice. Very nice common room with free internet access (high speed). Hotel is located near Spanish Steps, on the Via Del Corso, which is a shopping street closed to traffic. Our room was very quiet, with beautiful rooftop views toward the Villa Medici and Trinita Dei Monti. I would definitely book the same room on a return visit to Rome. I would highly recommend this Hotel."
"Furniture, bath room equipment fine and clean."
"Breakfast, employees and locations were wonderful."
"The roof terrace and its bar were particularly attractive."
"My husband enjoyed the real shower stall and access to the internet."
"A great gem of a hotel. The location, in a nice section of Rome off a street full of great shopping, cannot be beaten and the value is excellent."

Hotel Lirico in Rome

This is Travel Guide review: "Location: ¾ ml SE of Spanish Steps, on busy side street in commercial area near train station; beside small park. Bar, restaurant and shop immediate. Bus stop 30 yds; Repubblica underground 100 yds. Exterior: Well-maintained neoclassical 5-storey building (18th century/1999). Interior: Neat and comfortable. Small 1st-floor reception with limited seating. Plain adequate cafe-style breakfast area with bar. Lift from first floor. Most rooms with Jacuzzi."

A summary of guests' reviews:
"Lovely hotel very helpful and friendly staff, a pleasure to stay there."
"This hotel is conveniently located near a subway, is very clean and nice looking, and the staff is extremely friendly and professional (and they speak English very well, too). Clean, attractive rooms."
"Very nice, recommended. Rooms are nicely decorated, very clean, small by US standards, but larger than many European hotels in this price range. Full en-suite bathroom with hairdryer and towel warmer in room. Helpful, friendly, English-speaking staff. Beverages, wine, beer, some liquors available 24 hours - just ask at the desk. Breakfast is included, but not very exciting. Overall, I would recommend this hotel. Great value, great location in walking distance of Stazione Termini. We walked pretty much everywhere from this hotel. Lots of restaurants/shops nearby. I would stay there again."
"This was our first trip to Rome. The hotel was close to the main train station in Rome (within walking distance). The rooms were well furnished and large for this price range. The hotel appeared to be recently remodel and the rooms were great. We both enjoyed the hotel's features, its location and price value. We would recommended it. A great 3 star hotel (as nice as a lot of four stars). Best Feature: Clean and modern."
"We were very happy with our stay at the Lirico. Our room was clean, up-to-date, and had a view of the Opera Theater Square--quiet in the evenings. It's within walking distance to the Termini Train station or the Metro--conveniently located. We found the staff to be very helpful. We would definitely stay here again. Best Feature: Quiet."

Hotel Villa delle Rose in Rome

Fodor's guide description: "The gorgeous courtyard full of roses and jasmine lures in the weary traveler as deftly as a Venus's-flytrap. The tranquility of the outside is matched by the elegant and airy reception rooms; in the main room the eye is drawn irresistibly upward to a magnificent painted ceiling. The bedrooms are somewhat less impressive, but the hallmark taste of the hotel can be seen in every corner. 40 rooms. Bar."

Frommer's Rome guide description: "Located less than 2 blocks north of the rail station, this hotel is an acceptable, if not exciting, choice. In the late 1800s, it was a villa with a dignified cut-stone facade inspired by the Renaissance. Despite many renovations, the ornate trappings of the original are still visible, including the lobby's Corinthian-capped marble columns and the flagstone-covered terrace that is part of the verdant back garden. The look is still one of faded grandeur. Much of the interior has been recently redecorated and upgraded with traditional wall coverings, new carpets, new mattresses, and tiled bathrooms, 80% of which have a shower only. Breakfasts in the garden do a lot to add country flavor to an otherwise very urban setting. Families often book here asking for one of the three rooms with lofts that can sleep up to five. In Room amenities: air conditioning (23 rooms), TV, minibar, hair dryer."

"The location of the hotel is excellent for sightseeing as you are located beside Termini where you can get both metro lines and all local buses. The rooms are cleaned every day and the area has a good choice of places to eat at reasonable prices. And if you are looking for somewhere to stay at a reasonable price which won't blow your budget so you can spend the rest on food & drink I'd recommend this Hotel."
"Contilia is a very clean hotel with very good and polite staffing. The staff tried to answer all of our questions. Contilia does have a small lift for your luggage which is very helpful. The location is 5-8 minutes from Termini and 15-20 minutes from Colosseum and other main attractions. My general review, Contilia is a very nice place with nice people in a decent location. They earn their three stars."
"A pleasant central hotel, convenient to the local transport with easy access to airport and historical points of interest. Breakfast was served in pleasant surroundings and was always fresh."
"The staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful. I would certainly have no hesitation about returning."
"An excellent 'last stay' place in Rome due to its proximity to the train station (2 blocks). Nice people who cared about us and saw to making our stay enjoyable."

Orlanda Hotel in Rome

Assorted guests' reviews:
"This was a really great place to stay. The location is great because it is two blocks from Termini. The facility was nice and clean. There was a lot of street noise, but when you shut you window you can hardly tell. Awesome for budget travel."
"Hotel Orlanda was our first place to stay after flying for 20 hours from Canada. We were quite impressed that the pictures of the hotel on the web site accurately displayed the front desk and rooms. After a long flight, it was also great to have very friendly front desk staff who helped us check into our room. We really appreciated the detailed information given to us about the subway and bus system as well as locations of major historic sites in Rome. The staff at Hotel Orlanda certainly made our first couple of days in Italy memorable and gave our vacation a great start! We also had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Locanda dei Guelfi in Florence. We really appreciated the personalized email confirmation of our reservation. Based on our great experiences, we have been recommending Venere to friends who are planning vacations to Europe."
"The room is nice and clean. I was satisfied with the room and the service of it."
"An ideal location for exploring the central attractions of Rome. It is also ideally placed to transfer to airports. The hotel is very clean, with friendly staff."
